In celebration of Earth Day coming up on April 22nd, I'll be sharing lots of eco friendly crafts over the next couple of weeks. There are so many great ideas that it will make you start digging through your recycling bin and trash can or send you on an errand to your nearest thrift shop! I hope you enjoy them as much as I have enjoyed pulling them together :)
Today is my two year blogiversary for The Crafty Crow.
As with any baby, it has been growing so fast that I can
barely keep up but I'm thrilled and I have you to thank for
it! I love that so many of you visit on a regular basis and tell me about the tutorials that you have used. I love that your children check in as well and I keep that in mind when I'm creating the posts. Thank you for visiting, for linking, for your comments, your submissions, your kindness, and for letting me be a part of your lives. I love being in a community that values creativity and sees the importance of spending quality time with children and I hope that I have made it easier for you to combine the two.
I am constantly thinking of ways to improve The Crafty Crow and I value your feedback so please send me any ideas you have, I'd love to hear them!
I hope you have enjoyed the Crafts Around The World series. While differences are obvious, I love seeing how much we have in common as well, namely, loving our children and wanting to spend time with them. Doing crafts and cooking together are always fun - they may not remember the details of the craft or the recipe but they will remember the time that you spent with them and that's what it's all about anyway.
Thank you so much to my wonderful guest bloggers without whom this series would not have been possible:
One of my favorite memories from grade school was when we had to give an oral report for social studies. The assignment was to pick a country of our choice, share facts about the culture and include some sort of interactive project like a food to eat, game to play, or craft to make. That memory is what inspired me to put together Crafts Around The World, also known as, CAW :)
The posts for the next couple of weeks will focus on crafts, activities and food from all around the world. As a special feature, I have guest bloggers that have graciously contributed a project tutorial to help you learn a little more about the country that they call home. A new category has been created, "Crafts Around The World" so you can easily find these posts in the future too.
Also, each guest will answer any questions that your children have about their country! Just leave questions in the comments and they will be answered there as well :)
I thought I would let everyone know some of the themes I have coming up so if you have projects that you think would fit you could send them to me.
In March, The Crafty Crow will be celebrating crafts from around the world and I'll be featuring guest bloggers and their tutorials from a wonderful assortment of countries and cultures. If you have crafts, activities, games, or recipes that you think would fit this theme please send them to me and put "submission" in the subject line.
For April, it's all about recycling! I'd love to see all the ways you use recycled items to do crafts and have fun with your kids.
Does your child collect something? In May, I'd like to feature your child's collection. If they don't collect anything maybe this will be the motivation to get them started :) Remember, a collection begins with only three items. Check out this site for some great inspiration!
I always appreciate well photographed projects with a simple background. Email me here and please put "submission" in the subject line. Thank you, I can't wait to see what you've got for me!!
Did you know that you can become a fan of The Crafty Crow on Facebook? I've had that going for a little while now but haven't mentioned it here. I added a link over there in the right column where you can also follow me on Twitter. I'm not terribly savvy on Facebook yet but I'm learning :)
you all so much for your comments and emails full of love and support.
I read each one and they did make my heart feel lighter just knowing
that you care.
We had bad news over the holidays. First, my sister's niece was killed in a car accident. She had been suffering from anorexia for several years and it's thought that she had a seizure or heart attack that caused the accident. I just don't have the words to say how badly I feel for her family and it hurts me to know how much they are suffering. Then, on Christmas Eve, my father was diagnosed with bladder
cancer. He had surgery to remove the tumors and the pathology report
says that it hasn't spread beyond his bladder. It's the best news we
could have hoped for under the circumstances and he will begin
immunotherapy treatments in about six weeks. I won't go on about everything,
but just suffice it to say that the diagnosis set off a maelstrom of
emotions that left me feeling numb and exhausted.
Staying away from the computer and spending time with my kids, my parents, and my sister and her family has been very helpful in restoring my mental health and I very much appreciate your understanding and patience. You all are the best. New posts will be up on Monday. I hope you have a wonderful weekend and please hug your kids and loved ones for me.
My little break didn't really go as planned and I'm going to need another week to clear my head. I've been trying to figure out how to word this since I don't really feel like going into a lot of detail at this time but because of some family issues our holiday was delayed and I haven't really had the chance to do some of the things that I intended. I'm sorry, I don't mean to sound cryptic, but my heart is heavy and I'm having a hard time focusing these days. Thanks so much for your understanding.
Thank you so much for all your heart warming comments and well wishes for my sick kiddos. Everyone is definitely on the mend but there is still a lot of coughing and energy is running low. I'm thinking it was H1N1 because of the fevers and how hard it hit them but I don't know for sure. I can't tell you how much reading your comments meant to me, knowing you are out there and thinking of us made me feel so much better and I so appreciate the time you took to make that connection :)
I'm sorry everyone, there won't be any posts today, I'm just too tired. I have three sick kids and with almost no sleep last night and tending to the kids all day I just haven't had a chance to get it together. Check back over the weekend, I should be able to manage it by then. I'm off to bed now...
