Book: Santa's Snow Cat
Activity: Glitter Stars
We made these stars several years ago for the holidays and hung them
in the kitchen. I loved seeing them spin and sparkle every time I came
in the room. I kept them up for months longer than I had planned
because they were just so pretty and ever since I've wanted to make
them again. The book for today is Santa's Snow Cat and the
illustrations of Santa and his kitty flying through the sky made me
think that this would be a perfect craft to go along with this book.
Santa's Snow Cat is written by Sue Stainton and has deliciously
detailed and mesmerizing illustrations by Anne Mortimer.
You can read more about it here.
Glitter Stars DIY
• star pattern
• white cardstock
• wax paper
• Mod Podge
• paint brush
• fine glitter
• thin string for hanging the stars
Step 1: Print and cut out one star pattern on cardstock. Use it as
a stencil to trace as many stars as you want and cut them out.
Step 2: Use wax paper or something similar to cover your surface.
Paint the star with Mod Podge, then sprinkle with glitter. Let it dry.
To seal in the glitter, paint it again with Mod Podge and let it dry.
Turn the star over and repeat on the other side.
Step 3: The Mod Podge makes these stars flexible and durable so
you'll be able to pack them up and use them again if you'd like.
String them as a mobile, garland, or just hang them from the sealing.
Of course, they make pretty ornaments too!
The original Book and Christmas Book Advent craft for Santa's Snowcat
is popsicle stick stars and that tutorial is available here.
