"The Netherlands are a small, flat country with many
rivers and lots of ditches in the north of Europe.
Our capital is Amsterdam.
Our country is also well known for its painters. Famous
names are: Van Gogh, Rembrandt, and Vermeer.
Typically Dutch for tourists: cheese, windmills,
polders (landscape), tulips, dropjes (candy),
delfts blauw, bikes and wooden shoes.
The favorite sport for Dutch people is soccer.
Dutch people are always talking about the weather.
There is lots of rain so everyone needs some rain boots.
We often paint them!
Some typical Dutch food very loved by our three
children are herring, stroopwafels, hagelslag (chocolate
sprinkles), pindakaas, dropjes and biscuits with
little ‘muisjes’ (anise-based food).
Stroopwafels (syrup waffles) are a traditional Dutch
cookie treat. You can find more information here and a
recipe to make your own here.
Beschuit Met Muisjes (biscuits with little mice)
are traditionally served when a baby is born.
