BIG is a beautiful new print magazine out of
Australia that is about promoting creativity in children.
BIG stands for bravery, imagination, and generosity. This
issue's theme is First Flight, "where boats fly, birds sail,
and kids zoom side by side with artists in the BIG sky."
The creators are artist, Lilly Blue, and writer/dancer,
Jo Pollitt, who have a common interest in promoting
children's art and creative writing so they formed
a long distance partnership to make BIG a reality.
The senior editor is eight year old Luca!
This is not the kind of magazine that you will flip through
quickly then set aside until it has collected enough dust to
throw out. BIG is a magazine to experience and savor
for both adults and children.
Children's art and stories are featured side-by-side
with adult artists and writers which is charming and
fascinating and forms the basis of the magazine. You'll
also find interviews with children, dancers, singers,
photographers, film-makers, and more.
Journaling and art pages in each issue motivate you to
interact with the magazine. There's even a free art print!
They encourage submissions and other ways to be
involved so check the site for more details. The theme
for the next issue is Treasure Maps!
BIG is available now for delivery anywhere in the world
and will soon be on sale in stores throughout Australia.
And last, but in no way least, for every issue of BIG sold
one copy is given away to children who might not
otherwise be able to access it!
